The Yankees are still hanging around in Toronto and looking to take home the series tonight in the rubber match.  Toronto squeaked by in the first game a couple of nights ago, which definitely irked me since I had predicted the Yanks, but came through last night with a 5-1 win behind Pettite on the mound.  On the mound tonight are what on the surface would appear a mismatch of gigantic proportions, but let's look at the numbers behind the numbers.

New York Yankees +165 at Toronto Blue Jays -185

Free MLB Pick 8-20-08

Today's free MLB pick pits Matt Cain against Scott Olsen in AT&T Park.  It is a battle of the anemic Giants offense, versus Scott Olesen and a dominant Matt Cain against a capable Marlin line up.  Last night, after coming from home from a long road trip, the Giants laid an egg.  They came home at 3 in the morning and got 2 hit by Ricky Nolasco.  They've not settled in from their road trip and will be more focused tonight.  Although, they are still the Giants offense, which is entirely terrible.  Look for a couple of runs on the board, but nothing more.  Olsen will be throwing the ball over the plate, daring the Giants to hit, and the Giants just aren't going to make him pay.  Looking for a crisp game.  On the other side of the ledger, you have Matt Cain.  One thing to always remember is that if you want to get down, down on the ground, Matt Cain.  Yes, with Cain on the mound throwing Pee rods, this will be a low scoring game.  Take the under 7.5 and go to the bank.

In what would normally be a yawner, tonight's game between the Yankees and the Blue Jays actually has some meaningful consequences.  The Jays are just two games behind the Yankees, who are themselves only 5.5 games behind the AL Wildcard leader BoSox.  Therefore, there is definitely some incentive for both teams going into tonight.  Onto the matchup.

New York Yankees +118 at Toronto Blue Jays -128

The Yankees blew things wide open this past Sunday with 15 runs, and A-Rod and Jeter combined to go 7 for 7 in the matchup, and Giambi hit a grand slam.  Basically, their offense was in high gear.  However, tonight they are facing A.J. Burnett who is on fire, and has already proven he can calm the Yankee bats as he went 8 1/3 innings back on July 13th having only given up 1 ER.  He also has a sub 3 ERA in career starts against them.
