Week 6 College Football Picks

Eli Loved Ole Miss..so do we, but are we picking them?Eli Loved Ole Miss..so do we, but are we picking them?Another top 10 team went down last night, and a top 15 probably should have.  So, should we expect more of the same this weekend, or will things finally right themselves?  Well, I don't think we'll see too many more upsets that matter, perhaps a few of the bottom 25 might get upset, but the big wigs of college football shouldn't struggle too much, but that doesn't mean they will cover the spread.  On to the matchups.

South Carolina +2.5 at Mississippi

Ole' Miss is one of my favorite teams, not only because they just knocked off the Gators, but mainly because they are the only school in America that I know of that has a fight song where they curse.   If you've ever been to an Ole Miss game, and didn't know the lyrics, you would think you were hearing things when they first sang it, but upon further review...they do curse.  Here it is:

Ole Miss Lyrics
Forward, Rebels, march to fame,

Hit that line and win this game

We know that you'll fight it through,

For your colors red and blue.

Rah, rah, rah!

Rebels you are the Southland's pride,

Take that ball and hit your stride,

Don't stop till the victory's won

for your Ole Miss.

Fight, fight for your Ole Miss!

And From "Future Rebel" the Favorite Cheer!

HODDY TODDY

ARE YOU READY???

Hell yes, damn right!!!

hoddy toddy gosh almighty

who in the hell are we...HEY!!!

flim flam, bim bam

OLE MISS BY DAMN!!!

So, back to the game at hand.  Ole Miss is on cloud nine, and I'm not sure how they managed to knock off the Gators, but I don't think their luck continues this week.  South Carolina, despite a stumble to Vandy, has played pretty well. They blew out NC State to start off, then struggled against Vandy, but put a good performance up against UGA.  Their other two matchups were cupcakes, but looking at Ole Miss, I don't see much other than their last weekend's shocker.  They are 3-1-1 ATS, so Vegas is struggling with them, but I think they are overrated in this one after last weekend's game.  Go with the Gamecocks.

Stanford at Notre Dame -7

Is big ND back in the spotlight...well, maybe not the spotlight, but at least they can see the light again.  They beat down Michigan a few weeks ago at home, and Purdue last week.  Their only loss this year is away at Michigan State, but the good news for ND is that this one is at home, and they are only favored by 7.  Stanford upset the great upsetter (is that a word?) in week 1 against Oregon State, but the rest of their victories are against no names or schools without a win. Stanford will be in over their head this weekend, especially with Clausen playing well.

Auburn -4.5 at Vanderbilt

I'm just going to give you the numbers on this one, and you can see why the decision is easy.

  • Auburn has not lost to Vandy since the 1955 Gator Bowl and is 12-5 against nationally-ranked teams since the 2004 season
  • Tigers are yielding only 10.6 ppg and 246.0 total ypg
  • The Tigers defense is limiting foes to 92.2 rushing ypg on an average of 2.9 ypc
  • anderbilt is ranked 116th out of 119 FBS teams in passing offense, as the club is throwing for only 80.8 ypg
  • Opponents are scoring just 17.0 ppg against Vanderbilt, which is surrendering 364.2 total ypg

Basically, Vandy is a no passing threat, getting lucky SEC team, that is about to get worked over by a very good defense.  Go Tigers.

And thanks for the Vandy ginx. :)
