Yesterday we took the Cardinals and the flaky Kyle Lohse as the underdog pick. He is an on again, off again type of pitcher, so you know his mental state is about as steady as one of those bobble head dolls. Anyways, let's look at the boxscore for his first inning:
Bottom 1st: Colorado
| - S. Podsednik struck out looking |
| - O. Quintanilla flied out to right |
| - M. Holliday safe at first on third baseman B. Ryan's fielding error |
| - T. Helton doubled to deep right, M. Holliday scored |
| - G. Atkins walked |
| - R. Spilborghs walked, T. Helton to third, G. Atkins to second |
| - C. Iannetta singled to right center, T. Helton and G. Atkins scored, R. Spilborghs to third |
| - C. Barmes doubled to deep left, R. Spilborghs scored, C. Iannetta to third |
| - J. De La Rosa grounded out to first |
|
4 runs, 3 hits, 1 error |
|
St. Louis 0, Colorado 4 |
As you can see, if it weren't for Ryan's fielding error, he would have been in the dugout with a nice 3 up 3 down inning, but instead he is down 4-0, and is over there contemplating how it all went wrong and how he is going to make that Ryan kid pay. Then, to add insult to injury, the scorer decides that it wasn't an error, and give Holliday a hit, thus solidifying to Lohse that he is a Lohse(r). All in all, he was robbed by Ryan, then by the scorer. The only good news is that the Cardinals are actually protesting the ruling, not that it will get you your money back, unless you happen to own Lohse in fantasy, at which point 4 ER coming off your stat sheet sure seems nice.
