Free MLB Pick 5-8-2008

With all the early games, I feel like we have missed out on a couple of opportunities, but never fret, this is baseball, where there seems to be a game on at all times and all hours, especially if you are the East Coast.  How crazy is it that you East Coast folks can finish watching your hometown team play at 10pm, and then there is another game starting.  Must be nice to own a sports bar over there as the crowd can stay until all hours.  Anyways, on to today's Free MLB Pick.

St. Louis Cardinals +104 at Colorado Rockies

St. Louis comes into tonight with Kyle Lohse on the mound.  Kyle has done a good job this year posting a 3.79 ERA and 1.26 WHIP, and that is with a dismal performance his last time out giving up 8 ER in 6 IP.  Before that debacle he was sporting a low 2.36 ERA, and we think we will see more of that tonight.  The only downside is that the game is at Colorado where is it easier to keep Britney Spears out of the news than to keep keep balls in park. Given the fact that Lohse's K/9 is just over 3, there might be some concerns, but the Cardinals are the underdog, and getting good odds.

Colorado in putting Jorge De La Rosa on the mound tonight.  I'd like to blame the Mile High air for his whopping 20.25 ERA this year, but that would be a stretch.  Grant it, he's only pitched 4 innings this year, but last year he had a 5.82 ERA and 1.64 WHIP, so while he'll probably improve his 20+ ERA tonight, it shouldn't be enough to get the win.  Go with the Cardinals tonight.
