Conference Rankings heading into Bowl Season

I love computer rankingsI love computer rankingsThis time of year there are bowl projections being printed left and right, and for the most part they are fairly accurate.  Ideally what I would like to see is a pecking order of sorts like the BCS bowls where bowls can pick and choose the two best teams remaining and have that trickle down the line.  Wouldn't it be great to see how Texas Tech does against undefeated Boise State, or how TCU can handle a SEC foe.  Anyways, with all the conference tie ins, you need to know how each of the conferences stack up, and this is how it goes...

Top 6 Conferences from Each BCS Computer Poll

Sagarin: ACC, Big 12, SEC, Big East, Big 10, Pac-10

Billingsley: Big 12, SEC, Big 10, Pac-10, ACC, MWC

Anderson and Hester: ACC, Big 12, SEC, Big East, Big 10, Pac-10

Colley: Big 12, ACC, SEC, Big East, Big 12, MWC

Massey: ACC, Big 12, SEC, Big East, GHL-Starnz, MWC

Wolfe: Big 12, SEC, Big East, ACC, Big 10, MWC

According to the polls, the two strongest conferences seem to be the Big 12 (no shock) and The ACC (shocker), both of which are ranked #1 in 3 of the computer rankings. The Big 12 is stacked at the top so it shouldn't be a surprise, but the ACC doesn't have a dominant team, so people have wrongfully overlooked them. The ACC is looking at 10 of 12 teams Bowl eligible, and Virginia just barely missed making the cut after their loss to Va. Tech on Saturday. The SEC, Big 12, and Big 10 all have only 7. So, what you are going to want to be looking for during the bowl season are mid-level schools from other conferences going against the ACC. From top to bottom they are a strong conference, they are only missing a couple top tier teams, which is going to lead bettors to forget about them and thus bet wrongly. So, look out for a lot of ACC covers come bowl season!

Just a few numbers to throw out there for you to think about:

ACC vs. Big 12 (4-0)

ACC vs. SEC (6-4)

ACC vs. Big East (2-2)

ACC vs. Big 10 (0-1)

ACC vs. Pac 10 (1-1)

Combined record versus supposed other top conferences: 13-8.  Sounds like a winner to me.
