College Football Opening Weekend Recap

College football fans were left in complete shock this weekend as Michigan, who was ranked #5 in the preseason polls, became the first ranked team to lose to a Division 1-AA school. Actually, they are no longer called Division 1-AA for some reason. Appalachian State University is located in Boone, NC, and unless you know someone that went there or used to go on vacations up there like myself, you probably have never heard of it...that is until you heard the thud as Michigan's last Field Goal attempt was blocked, thus securing ASU's victory. Either way, this was one of those games that will go down in the history books as one of the largest upsets bad there wasn't a betting line on it. To cap it all off, take a look at the following Appalachian State University recruiting'll make you feel Hot, Hot, Hot!

The world of college football has begun, and although there were no upsets last night, a few teams did make some strong statements. LSU (#2) absolutely destroyed their SEC counterpart with a 45-0 blowout at Mississippi State, and Louisville (#10) obliterated Murray St. 73-10 at home.

This weekend isn't loaded with great games, but does have a very good matchup between Cal and Tennessee. Last year Tennessee destroyed Cal in the opener at Tennessee, but this year the game is at Cal, so expect it to be close with a Cal victory at the end of the day, mainly due to Nate Longshore.

The only other games that seem of interest are Wake Forest and Boston College. Wake is coming off their best season in who knows how long having won the ACC and played in a BCS bowl, yet the Eagles are currently favored by 6 at home. I'd go with Boston College on this one.
